When you are ready to take your ASA Certification exam, you can take it at a Public Library of your choosing. You can select the library and date, notify us of this plus the name of a contact person at the library, and we'll send testing materials and instructions to the library. Upon completion of the exam, the library will mail your completed exam to us for grading. We'll grade the exam and return results to you, and process the ASA certification.
If you feel that you have adequate knowledge of either the Coastal Navigation or Celestial Navigation subject matter, you may sit for the exam without purchase of the applicable Home Study package. The fee includes testing, grading, and shipping of the test materials both ways if at a library, as well as ASA certification upon successfully passing the exam. No books or other materials are included with this option
When we receive your registration, we'll send you the course materials listed above. Shipping of the navigation chart will be rolled in a tube to avoid creasing, except for international shipping.
As you work through the materials, if you have a specific question, you may email your questions and we will respond either by e-mail or phone, whichever is appropriate, at no charge. More extended private online tutoring is offered at $60.00 per hour.
When you are ready to take the exam (there is no time limit) you may take it in our Rock Hall, MD office during the summer season (May through October) or at a public library near you if that is more convenient. The exams may take 4 to 6 hours to complete, and most libraries are happy to proctor the exam. Some libraries charge a proctoring fee, which will be your responsibility, but those that do not charge will usually appreciate a donation.
