Audio/Video: There can be a wide difference in the quality of the audio and video available. Most providers now offer VoIP as an option for the audio portion of your conference. Although this may be handy, the call quality can differ considerably based on each person’s internet connection speed and quality. Some providers offer a call-in option that connects via a traditional phone line. The quality of this audio will most often be better, but can also be more expensive. Be sure to find a provider that offers they type of audio connection you require.

With Video, once again quality can span the spectrum. While some providers now offer HD video, many do not or offer it at an extra cost. The number of concurrent video streams you can have running can also range from only a few to limited only by connection speed and useability. If you require video as part of your web conferencing solution, then be sure that the quality and concurrent streams match your needs.

Capacity: Most web conferening services limit the number of participants you can have in a meeting. This limit may be associated with the type of plan you purchase – Meeting vs. Webinar and/or the pricing structure. There may also be a limit to the number or presenters or hosts that are allowed. Be sure that the provider you select fits your needs.

Pricing: If you are going to be using your web conferencing service infrequently, then you may want to consider a service that offers pay-as-you go pricing. Monthly subscriptions are best for those that will be using the service on a reqular basis. Some services may charge extra for each participent – these types of plans would only be a good value for very small meetings. Be careful of “extra charges” that some services may charge for particular features.
